CEO of Chipotle Accused Of Raising Prices On His Product Without Needing To

Scott Boatwright, who is the current CEO of Chipotle was accused of claiming that he would raise prices on his products not because he has to, but simply because he can.  The accusations made by X user, WallStreetApes, were based upon the following recorded statement made by Boatwright pertaining to the course of his company:

“We learned that 60% of our core users are over $100,000 a year in income, in average household income. That gives us confidence that we can lean into that group in a more meaningful way — to really drive meaningful transaction performance in the year” [1]

There is no direct contextual evidence that Boatwright is necessarily going to do this, but that he wishes to cater more to higher wage-earning customers than to those in the lower economic brackets has still aroused suspicion that he may very well do that and unless he outright admits that he is going to raise prices to cater to a certain economic class, I cannot, in all fairness label such an accusation against him.

But that does not mean that there aren’t businesses and corporations who raise prices simply because they are greed-driven and it is these sorts of businesses and corporations who give Capitalism a bad name and they are the reason why the Marxists call Capitalism inherently evil.

But unfortunately, this is a situation to which there is no political solution as you cannot tax, legislate, or regulate away greed.  That has already been tried and all that has done is raise consumer prices, decrease wages, and limit supply more so than otherwise.
This is a situation that can only be corrected within the private sector rather than in the halls of government.

But let’s just say that Mr. Boatwright is planning to raise prices on his product and in the process, alienate the remaining 40 percent of his customer base.  If the forty percent of his customer base were to boycott Chipotle, would Boatwright’s company be able to survive on what remains? Time would only tell.  But boycotting would not be enough to bring the changes desired within the private sector on a long-term basis.  There then would also have to arise a viable rival to Chipotle; one that serves the same products but within a price range inclusive of all economic brackets and one much more principled.

If such a rival corporation were to arise, it might then give Boatwright an incentive to keep his prices within a reasonable range and to find a way to cater to the upper middle class bracket without alienating the lower economic bracket as he would be facing competition and it is competition that is needed to bring the necessary corrections to our private sector and that does include ethical and moral ones.

For those out there who may see Capitalism as inherently evil due to the greed and selfishness of some of its participants, what needs to be understood is that it is not that Capitalism, once you understand how it works and how it is supposed to work, in and of itself is such a bad thing; it is the people who participate in it and if we want a economic system that is moral and ethical, then the people by whom it is run, operated, and managed have to be moral and ethical as well because a system is only as good or bad as the people involved.

I find it very ironic as to how the left, especially the Marxists, claim inherent evil in Capitalism but yet are blind to the evils within government.  They think that by replacing Capitalism with Communism that they will rid society of greed but have never considered that the same greed and selfishness within Capitalism will get recycled and transferred into the new system they hope and promise will bring the fairness and equity they seek when historically, that has never been the case.

Every time Communism has been implemented, nothing was ever made fair and equal but was instead made more unfair, more unequal, and more unjust than ever before as there was always someone in control of the wealth and resources and who decided as to how the wealth and resources were distributed and to whom, what was produced, and how much.

At least in a Capitalist society, there are ways to correct the evils within that do not require government intervention, but as for the evils present within a Marxist or Communist society, what is there in place to bring correction thereto? A governing power that is placed in control of everything cannot be expected to correct itself.  So, why would anyone ever think that Communism would ever be more benevolent and more principled than Capitalism, except that they are so blind and ignorant to human nature?

As I mentioned earlier, institutions and governing systems are only as good or as evil as the people who are in charge of them for as it is written, it is not that from without that defiles, but that which is from within (Mt. 15:11, 18-20) and if Capitalism is being defiled, it is because people are defiling it and they are defiling it with their inherently corrupt nature which influences not just their decisions, behavior, and actions, but their very attitudes, motives, and thoughts and that is what needs to be changed for the better before anything else can be and that requires a change not from without but an inward change, for as it is also written, “cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.” (Mt. 23:6)

While mankind seeks outward change, our Creator seeks inward changes and inward changes within us because if change must begin before it can be manifested from without, then that is only because the defilement began from within before its outward manifestations transpired in the various forms, means, ways, and severities that we witness today.

Superficial changes, even for the better will not last but will only be temporary and even short-lived unless the needed inward changes for the better take place which will be necessary to maintain the outward changes for the better that we seek and the reason why the Lord God by whom all things are made seeks an inward transformation before an outward transformation is because the inward person is not as God initially created it to be.

When God had created the world, He had created it to be a place of purity and before evil had entered into the world, there had existed in the universe a perfect and uninterrupted harmony between God, man, and nature until one day a spirit of corruption entered into the world and through subtle deception caused the first man Adam and the first woman Eve, who was the wife of Adam, to do something that they had been forbidden by God to do, which was the eating of a fruit from a certain tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, having been warned of God that in the day that they ate thereof they would surely die. (Gen. 2:16-17, 3:3)

But when they failed to heed the warning and ate of that forbidden fruit, it was in that day that sin entered into them which is defined not merely by outward behavior and actions or even by words spoken but is the corrupted condition of our inward being by which what we think, say, and do is influenced and when their inward person became corrupted, it was for this cause that the sentence of death, of which they had been warned was pronounced.

But the consequences of the transgression that caused sin to enter into Adam and Eve which then led to their eventual deaths did not stop with just them because the sin which entered into them was also passed down to all of mankind for all of us are descendants of that first man and that first woman and because we are their descendants, we have also inherited the sin that entered into them (Rom. 5:12) and because of that sin which we have inherited, we all sin in some form or fashion and as a consequence we all die for as it is written, the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23) but sin is not merely confined to outward behavior or performance or even the words we speak, but it is rather the inherent inward corruption of our very nature defiling our thoughts, hardening and darkening our hearts, and corrupting our very motives which is why it is written that we are not defiled from that which comes from without, but that which comes from within (Mt. 15:11, 18-20) and which is why it is written that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) which demands of us nothing less than moral perfection and not just in our outward acts but also in our inward as well which is why it is impossible by our own efforts and our own goodness to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, for sin taints, corrupts, defiles, twists, and distorts more than we can comprehend and the effects of sin are not merely confined to mankind, but all of creation is subjected to a curse because of sin which is why it is written that the entire creation groans and travails in pain to this day. (Rom. 8:19-22)

And a day is coming when all the unfairness and injustices of the world will be set aright but that does require the elimination from the world of all who are found guilty of evil and who persist in remaining in their sin, but if that day is delayed it is only because God is not willing that any should be damned but that all would come to repentance, (2 Pet. 3:9) He offers redemption to all who are willing to receive it and submit to His authority and the redemption that He offers is in Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior and the only begotten Son of God, (Jn. 3:16) who came to us in the flesh, (Jn. 1:14) and being without any sin (2 Cor. 5:21) was made that perfect sacrifice (Heb. 7:26-27) that was needed to take away the sins of the world and because of His perfect goodness, He was able to offer Himself up on our behalf to satisfy the demanded penalty for all sin and granting mercy and grace through the shedding of His blood on the cross and after having died, rose again from the dead three days later that we might be justified in Him (Rom. 4:25) if we will but call upon His name so that we might be saved from what would otherwise be a terrifying everlasting punishment if we will but call upon His name (Rom. 10:9, 13) and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead (Rom. 10:9) for it is by calling upon His name in sincere repentance that salvation is granted and our souls made clean from sin thereby liberating us from the threat of eternal damnation and with that cleansing comes a new spiritual transformation (2 Cor. 5:17) that causes us to no longer desire to follow after selfish and worldly pursuits but after those things that pertain to the Kingdom of Heaven,
to no longer take pleasure in those things that are evil and displeasing in the sight of the Lord, but in that which is good, right, and pleasing in His sight,
to no longer desire to walk in the lies of this present world, but only in the truth that comes from Christ Almighty who is the source of all truth, (Jn. 14:6)
no longer placing our hopes in the things of this present world, but looking forward to that new and better world to come, (Rev. 21-22)
to no longer rely on worldly resources, men, or even our own power, abilities, skills, and wisdom for our needs and provision but upon God who is able to meet all of our needs, recognizing that the resources of this world and even the people He brings into our lives are but instruments and vessels through which God meets our needs and that the skills, power, knowledge, and wisdom by which we might acquire our provision are provided and instilled in us by God, (Mt. 6:25-33)
to no longer fear what men can do to us, but rather fearing the God before whom we will have to one day give an account for how we lived our lives, (Mt. 10:28)
to no longer look to corruptible institutions within our society for direction and order in our lives but to God who, by His written Word has given us laws and precepts to be applied to our lives and which serve to produce and maintain an ordered life, and who, by His Holy Spirit which comes to dwell within us upon repentance, establishes in our lives a course and direction in our lives to pursue for His glory,
to no longer seek our own glory but the glory of God,
to no longer rally behind corruptible men, but instead behind the incorruptible God in Heaven bearing in mind that those men and women God raises up for our edification are but instruments and servants of His for that respective purpose to which He has called them,
to no longer seek to align ourselves with the things of darkness but only with the things of the light,
to no longer trust in the wisdom of the world but only on the wisdom and knowledge that comes from above, (Jas. 1:5) nor depend on corruptible earthly authorities to swiftly administer justice, but only in the power of God to deliver us from evil.

And it is this new inward transformation that reconciles us to our Creator (2 Cor. 5:18) from whom we had once been estranged and just as our souls are cleansed from sin and our spirits regenerated in Christ Jesus thereby liberating us from the eternal tormenting punishment that must come upon all who remain in their sins, so one day we look forward to the liberation of our bodies from death itself when our mortal and corruptible forms are transformed into that which is immortal and incorruptible and from that which is imperfect to that which is perfect (1 Cor. 15:51-55, 1 Thess. 4:13-18) and lastly, creation itself will be delivered from the curse placed upon it because of sin when it is made into a new and better world (Rev. 21-22) and in that new world which will be made, there will be no sin, no death, no decay, nor any curse, nor any evil, or violence, suffering, misery, grief, sorrow, mourning, pain, or hardship of any sort for all of these will pass away with this present world.  Instead, there will only be light, life, happiness, joy, contentment, peace, and rest before the Lord God Almighty.

If you have not done so already and sense the call to repentance and transformation, then I urge you reader to call upon the name of the Lord Jesus for the forgiveness of sins today.  It is but a simple sincere heartfelt prayer of repentance away:

"Lord Jesus I need you.

I realize that I am a sinner
who has fallen short of the glory of God
and that my goodness falls short
of your standard of Moral perfection.

Please forgive me of all of my sins.
Come into my heart and into my life
to be the Savior and Lord of my life.
Make me into the servant and follower
that you want me to be.
In your name Lord Jesus, I pray.

Amen."
