Christian
Post commentator Eric Wallace lays out some very good points as to how
Socialism is in direct conflict with and violation of God’s design for humanity;
here are three points that stuck out to me the most:
1.
“socialism, in its attempt to make everyone feel equal, may in fact oppress the
very talents and abilities that God distributed among humanity.
We
are created in His image and likeness, not only as individuals, but as a
collective. And that collective is nothing like the one socialism imagines. It
does not see us as blank canvases waiting for the state to write upon us
whatever it wishes. It sees us as members of a body, each with a distinct part
to play.” [1]
To
provide further clarity to the first point made by Wallace, Socialism, but more
accurately called Communism, does not see individuals, but only collectives
whereas God sees both collectives and individuals. God sees a collective as a group of different
individuals working together but in different roles which is why He does not
impart the same gifts, skills, and talents to each person. According to Christian teaching, although we
may come together as one body, we do not lose our individual identities in the
processes as we all within that collective serve different roles. We are not a hive mind as Communism seeks to
turn everyone into. Even ants and bees
which appear to operate as a collective have different roles because if it were
not so, the colonies and the hives would not survive and when we stand before
God and give an account for all that we have said and done in this life, we will
be judged, not as a collective, but as individuals; even down to the very
thoughts of the mind and the motives and attitudes of the heart and when the
final honors and sentences are handed out, not all will receive the same honors
and not all will receive the same sentencing.
2.
“Socialism ignores the sovereignty of God. It presumes to redistribute what He
has apportioned, to level what He has ordered, to play God in the lives of
ordinary people whether they consent or not. It mistakes His design for a
defect and sets out to repair it.
But
the differences among us are not a wound to be healed. They are the very means
by which He made us a blessing to one another, and economic freedom is simply
the arrangement that lets that blessing move. It is not merely more productive
than socialism, though it is. It is more faithful. It honors the God who gives
the gifts by leaving men free to use them, trusting that a people at liberty to
sow, to risk and to serve will raise the whole harvest higher than any central
plan could arrange. The free market did not invent this design. It consents to
it.”

When
godly principles are applied to the free market, then it becomes a blessing and
a benefit to all people alike and not just to the wealthy, but even to the poor
as well. If Capitalism has become
greedy, hard-hearted, cold, callous, and selfish, it is not because Capitalism
is inherently evil, it is because its members and participants have rejected
godly principles.
If
the economic system is changed without reforming the inward condition of its
participants, than the greed within the old system will just simply be recycled
into the new.
3.
“Socialism's error was never bad arithmetic. It was the presumption that the
maker miscalculated, and that the state must balance His books. But God did not
distribute His gifts unevenly by mistake. He did it so that the strong would
serve the weak, the gifted would enrich the many, and no one would imagine he
could stand alone. To give men the freedom to exercise those gifts is not
injustice to be corrected. It is obedience to the God who gave them.” [3]
I
must correct Wallace in that it has never been about the strong serving the
weak but all using what God has given them in service to Him and in service to
one another.
Because
Socialism is rooted in a naturalistic, atheistic, and an anti-theist worldview,
it assumes that all things are fall all people and that all people are the same
and should be all be able to do the same things, but we are not all the same;
not in the sense that we are not all created equal, we are all created equal as
scripture makes that very clear. (Acts 10:34, Gal. 3:28, Col. 3:11)
But
not all things are fore all people and we are not all assigned the same roles
and we are not all given the same gifts, talents, and skills which is why we
are always going to be better at some things than we will be at others and each
one of us is always going to have interests and passions that others may not
have but what we are given, we are expected to use and apply to the extent that
is given to each and every one of us by our Maker. We don’t want to be the man who was given the
one talent but buried it instead of using it (Mt. 25:24-30) but whereas gifts,
skills, and talents are given and meant to be exercised to the honor and glory
of the Lord, Socialism suppresses what God has given and robs people of dignity,
value, and purpose.
To
Socialism and Communism, each person is just an expendable cog in a wheel to be
discarded once that person has outlived what that ideology deems to be useful,
but to God, our value is not based on usefulness as we might understand usefulness
to be, but based on the fact that He made us and He made us for a reason and a
purpose and we are loved by Him simply because He thought of us before we were
born into this world.
But
those who embrace Communism are rejecting the love of God for a system that
doesn’t care for them and has no regard for their life or welfare. It may claim compassion and fairness, but
history has shown that the results thereof are neither compassionate,
understanding, empathetic, loving, or fair.
Only
a system founded upon the laws, principles, and precepts of God can ever be a
system of love, compassion, understanding, empathy, and fairness but in order
for there to be such a system, the culture and its people must first have the
fear and love of God in it because if the fear and love of God does not dwell
in the people, then there cannot be a governing system that is compassionate,
understanding, empathetic, or fair because in order for a governing system to
be loving, caring, kind, compassionate, empathetic, fair, and understanding and
in order for there to be a governing system that regards the welfare of those
over which it is placed, it has to be a system of governance ruled by the love
and fear of God, but it takes a people ruled by the love and fear of God to
make that happen and a day is coming when a governing power and system will be
set in place and in which sinful man will have no part but it will be a
government that is without sin and incorruptible because it will be established
and run by a sinless and incorruptible God and it will be a Kingdom in which
sin, corruption, and injustice will have no presence because all those things
will be done away with and the reason why these things will be done away with
is because they were never intended to be a part of God’s initial creation to
begin with.
When
God had created the world, He created it to be a place filled with nothing but
goodness and created all things to be good and in that world, there was no sin,
no evil, no corruption, and in no injustice of any kind and there was no death,
suffering, grief, pain, sorrow, or hardship of any sort until the day that a
fateful and astronomically consequential act of disobedience had been committed
by the first man Adam and the first woman Eve that turned the world from the
once good world that God created it to be into the world as we presently know
it to be with death, sin, evil, and suffering abounding everywhere.
That
astronomically consequential act of disobedience that Adam and Eve had
committed that plunged the once good world into its presently corrupted and
fallen state was the eating of a fruit from a certain tree called the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil; the only thing forbidden to Adam and Eve,
having been warned of God that in the day that they ate thereof, they would
surely die. (Gen. 2:16-17, 3:3)
But
instead of heading the warning given to the by God, they listened to another
voice from a lying spirit who falsely assured them that they would not face the
sentence of death from the eating of that forbidden fruit and deceived them
into believing that they would receive greater and better things (Gen. 3:4-5)
but instead of receiving the greater things that they were promised by that
lying voice, they were reduced to a status inferior than in the one that they
were created in (Gen. 3:7) and instead of being spared the sentence of death as
that lying voice told them that they would be, the sentence of death was
pronounced upon them just as they were warned (Gen. 3:19) and to which they had
eventually succumbed.
And it was in that day that sin had entered into the
world, first into Adam and Eve by the eating of that forbidden fruit, and then
into the rest of humanity because the sin that entered into Adam and Eve was
then inherited by the rest of humanity because it was from Adam and Eve all
humanity descends and because we are all descended from them, we inherit from
them an inherently corrupt nature that resulted from sin entering into them
(Rom. 5:12) and it is due to this inwardly corrupt condition of our nature that
causes all to sin and consequently, all to die just as Adam and Eve died for
their sin because, as it is written, the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23)
which is why when sin came into the world, death came into the world as well,
for it is in sin that death has its power and it is in sin that death reigns
over all and is no respecter of persons; it makes no distinction between the
infant and the elderly, man or woman, child or adult and with sin and death
have come every kind, degree, level, and severity evil, pain, suffering,
adversity, hardship, contention, corruption, perversion, conflict, defilement,
and chaos that there ever could be and it is for this reason that it is written
that the entire creation groans and travails in pain to this day. (Rom.
8:19-22)
And the lying spirit responsible for deceiving Adam
and Eve into that act of disobedience used to be a certain angelic being named
Lucifer who served as a covering cherub at the throne of God until the day that
he was so lifted up in pride that he thought he could make himself equal with
God which led him and those who sided with him against God to be cast from
their positions in Heaven (Is. 14:11-21, Ezek. 28:12-19) and it was in that day
that Lucifer became better known as Satan or the Devil and what Satan could not
accomplish in Heaven, he was able to accomplish on the earth what he could not in
Heaven and it was he who came in the form of a serpent and deceived Adam and
Eve into committing that very act of disobedience that brought sin and death
into the world, first to Adam and Eve and then to the rest of humanity by way of
sin passing from Adam and Eve to everyone born into the world, thereby subjugating
the world to sin and death and just as the serpent had promised Adam and Eve
better things if they ate of that forbidden fruit they were warned of God to not
eat from, so tyrannical systems such as Communism are presented as something
better than the current system in place but each time that that it is
implemented, it has always resulted in things far worse than what was there
before because just as evil entered into the world through a lie, so any given
tyrannical system is established on a lie as well and it is embraced and
propagated by those who are either blind to or have no love of the truth and as
a consequence, just as the eating of the forbidden fruit led the world into an
unprecedented bondage of sin and death, so those who believed in the promises
of Socialism and Communism have found themselves under an unprecedented
oppression and tyranny and the result is always the same because the same
spirit who deceived Adam and Eve into the eating of the forbidden fruit is the
same spirit who sells the lie of Socialism and Communism; promising greater
things, but instead delivering things lesser and inferior to what was before.
Communism promises fairness but is never fair. It promises equality, but never makes
anything equal except perhaps an equal sharing of misery. It may even promise a freedom greater than
what is possessed, but what it presents as freedom is never freedom but
oppression and tyranny, both economically and socially and tyrannical systems
is among the many and likewise what Satan promised to Adam and Eve in the
garden was not enlightenment nor was it greatness, but instead the result of
their disobedience was the reign and tyranny of sin and death and which persists
to this day.
Now sin is not merely an action or even an ill-spoken
word or corrupt speech. It is the
corrupted condition of our very nature that influences not only what we say and
do, but also our thoughts, motivations, and attitudes. It poisons our minds, darkens our hearts, and
sours our attitudes and once we understand sin to be the corrupted state of our
inward person, the better we are able to understand why our own goodness and
our own merit is not enough to cleanse us from our sins but rather the cleansing
is an inward act that is only possible with the God who offers us redemption and
He offers redemption because He is not willing that any should perish in their
sins and be eternally damned (2 Pet. 3:9) but that all come to repentance and
be spared the wrath that is to come and be delivered from the darkness and
fires of Hell which all who persist in remaining in their sins and taking
pleasure in those things that are evil and displeasing in the eyes of the Lord
are destined for.
And the redemption that we are offered is offered to
us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and the only begotten Son of God
(Jn. 3:16) who was sent into the world to offer Himself up unto death on our
behalf to take away our sins by purchasing our redemption through His death and
the shedding of His blood upon the cross on which He was crucified and after
having purchased in His death our redemption, He was then raised again from the
dead for our justification (Rom. 4:25) so that we, by our faith in Him would be
justified in Him and what made it necessary for Jesus to die on the cross for
our sins and be raised from the dead is because of the presence of sin within
us, we have all sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23)
which demands moral perfection which, because of sin, we all fail to attain in
some form or fashion (some more so than others) and because sin within us causes
us to fall short of moral perfection, it required a man without sin to take upon
Himself the demanded penalty of sin and that man in whom there was no sin and
is no sin (2 Cor. 5:21, Heb. 4:15) is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
God
does not merely want a change in what we say and do. He wants a change within our inner person
which is only made possible by our faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of our
sins and when we call upon His name for the forgiveness of sins in sincere
repentance, then that is when the transformative process begins (2 Cor. 5:17)
and it is this transformation that causes us to no longer desire to follow
after selfish and worldly pursuits but after those things that pertain to the
Kingdom of Heaven,
to
no longer take pleasure in those things that are evil and displeasing in the
sight of the Lord, but in that which is good, right, and pleasing in His sight,
to
no longer desire to walk in the lies of this present world, but only in the
truth that comes from Christ Almighty who is the source of all truth, (Jn.
14:6)
no
longer placing our hopes in the things of this present world, but looking
forward to that new and better world to come, (Rev. 21-22)
to
no longer rely on worldly resources, men, or even our own power, abilities,
skills, and wisdom for our needs and provision but upon God who is able to meet
all of our needs, recognizing that the resources of this world and even the
people He brings into our lives are but instruments and vessels through which
God meets our needs and that the skills, power, knowledge, and wisdom by which
we might acquire our provision are provided and instilled in us by God, (Mt.
6:25-33)
to
no longer fear what men can do to us, but rather fearing the God before whom we
will have to one day give an account for how we lived our lives, (Mt. 10:28)
to
no longer look to corruptible institutions within our society for direction and
order in our lives but to God who, by His written Word has given us laws and
precepts to be applied to our lives and which serve to produce and maintain an
ordered life, and who, by His Holy Spirit which comes to dwell within us upon
repentance, establishes in our lives a course and direction in our lives to
pursue for His glory,
to
no longer seek our own glory but the glory of God,
to
no longer rally behind corruptible men, but instead behind the incorruptible
God in Heaven bearing in mind that those men and women God raises up for our
edification are but instruments and servants of His for that respective purpose
to which He has called them,
to
no longer seek to align ourselves with the things of darkness but only with the
things of the light,
to
no longer trust in the wisdom of the world but only on the wisdom and knowledge
that comes from above, (Jas. 1:5) nor depend on corruptible earthly authorities
to swiftly administer justice, but only in the power of God to deliver us from
evil.
If
you want fairness and equality, you are not going to find it in any given form
of government.
You
are not going to find it in either Capitalism or in any form of Marxism. You will never find it in either a
representative form of government, and you most certainly will not find it
under a monarchy or dictatorship because all of these things are established,
implemented, and governed by corruptible man and because man is corruptible,
any given form of government and any given economic system, even under the best
of circumstances and even run and overseen by the most principled driven of
persons, is always going to be subject to some degree of corruption, inequity, injustice,
and unfairness which is why changing economic systems and changing government
structures will never rid us of the evils we protest against.
The
only way that inequality, injustice, and other evils will ever be diminished is
when we quit placing our trust in corruptible institutions and powers and start
looking to that which is incorruptible and that is Jesus Christ who is our Lord,
Savior, God, and Maker and who will make everything wrong in the world right
again and just as He had intended all things to be from the beginning, but that
change in the world He wants to first begin within each and every one of
us. All that it takes for that change
within you to take place and for you to be the change in the world that you
want to be with His help is a simple sincere prayer of repentance:
"Lord
Jesus I need you.
I
realize that I am a sinner
who
has fallen short of the glory of God
and
that my goodness falls short
of
your standard of Moral perfection.
Please
forgive me of all of my sins.
Come
into my heart and into my life
to
be the Savior and Lord of my life.
Make
me into the servant and follower
that
you want me to be.
In
your name Lord Jesus, I pray.
Amen."
Know
that God is not concerned with the words that you use to call upon Him for forgiveness, but with the attitude of
your heart and if you have, with all sincerity, have asked Christ to forgive
you of your sins, placing your trust in Him only for your salvation and in
nothing else, then your sins are forgiven and your place in Heaven is certain.
