The
good news: Majority of Gen Z rejecting atheism and naturalism (hopefully that
will also lead to a rejection of Socialism and Communism)
The
bad news: Just because the majority of Gen Z describes themselves as
“religious” that doesn’t necessarily mean they are all followers of Christ as
the study featured in the following item from the Christian Post shows that
their spirituality and spiritual activity is a mixed bag of Christianity and of
activities forbidden by scripture.
The
Christian Post reported, according to the study that:
Eighty-eight
percent of Gen Z adults said they regularly engaged in at least one of the
following spiritual activities, including prayer, Scripture reading, religious
services, meditation or ritual, manifestation, astrology or tarot, or energy
work. [1]
It
is good that these Gen Z adults are engaging in prayer (that’s a start)
It
is encouraging that they are engaging in scripture reading
(assuming
that is Bible reading, but they could also be reading from other religious
texts as well)
It
is also encouraging to know that they are attending religious services
(assuming
that they are attending Christian church services and not those of other faiths
but we don’t really know for certain)
But
here is where it gets concerning:
They
also engage in meditative practices
(the
eastern mind-emptying kind which has been known to draw in misleading and
negative spiritual experiences)
They
engage in ritual (which may vary from occult practices to legalist traditions;
both in violation of scripture and the teachings of the Gospel)
They
engage in manifestation and energy work (not sure what that is all about)
And
the most concerning of all is that they engage in astrology and tarot card
readings; both of which are forbidden in the Bible (Deut. 18:10-12)
While
it is good to know that the majority of Gen Z believes in a Creator or a higher
power, the battle for the mind, heart, and soul of that generation is still
going on and it is vitally important that anyone who is earnestly seeking out
the Maker be instructed in biblically sound discipleship and that they are led
to Bible-believing congregations with committed and dedicated Bible-believing
saints.
That
the majority of Gen Z professes to adhere to some form of spirituality and
considers that to be a very important part of their lives, opens up
opportunities for the Church to have thoughtful and hopefully productive
discussions about the things of the Spirit in hopes of leading some to a saving
faith in Jesus Christ and to provide them with spiritual and theological
clarity but if we are not out actively going about the business of our Savior
and preaching the Gospel to as many as are willing to listen.
Gen
Z clearly understands that there are forces and powers greater than themselves
to which they must look but I fear that they may not all know exactly to what
power they should look and so in their search for peace, security, and purpose
in their lives which they know that they cannot find in humanity or in man-made
institutions and there are unseen powers and forces out there that are more
than willing to fill that spiritual vacuum and not all of them are of God and
when one set of lies no longer sells, they are ready, able, and eager to
replace one set of lies with another set of lies and probably with a set of
lies more persuasive, subtle, and deceptive than the current set of lies and
they are not above mixing some degree of truth with their lies so as to be
better able to deceive as many as they can into spiritual darkness and
eventually into a Christless eternity filled with an everlasting torment and
punishment.
There
has been grave and legitimate concern with the attraction of many Gen Zs to
godless Communism, but Communism and naturalistic philosophy are not the only
lies that the adversary of souls of men is willing to deceive multitudes with
as he is prepared with a wide arsenal of lies to blind as many as he can from
the truth of the Gospel of salvation and what he cannot deceive with one set of
lies, he is more than willing to deceive with another set.
The
spirit of lies, push comes to shove, does not necessarily mind what worldview
anyone decides to embrace just so long as it keeps them from seeing clearly and
embracing the very truth that comes from the God who made all things because it
is from the God who made us that truth comes forth and it is He alone who is
the source of all truth (Jn. 14:6) just as He is the source of all things and
the truth that comes from Him brings clarity and not confusion, reveals instead
of hides, exposes all things for what they are instead of making them out to
appear to be what they are not, and demands accountability.
But
lies on the other hand cause confusion instead of clarity.
They
hide what needs to be revealed and exposed.
They
shield from accountability.
And
they make things out to appear to be what they are not.
Truth
never changes, just as the God who is truth never changes (Mal. 3:6, Heb. 13:8)
but
lies change all the time and ever since before the dawn of creation itself,
there has been age long warfare between the God of all creation and of all
truth and the spirit of lies and ever since the creation of mankind, that
warfare has been a warfare for the hearts, minds, and souls of humanity and this
warfare that became a warfare for the minds, hearts, and souls of men began in the
Kingdom of Heaven when a certain angel named Lucifer, who had served as a
covering cherub at the throne of God, became so lifted up in his pride that he
thought he could make himself equal to God and it was this pride of his that led
to him and those who had sided with him against God to be cast from their
positions in Heaven (Is. 14:11-21, Ezek. 28:12-19) and it was in that day that the
fallen cherub Lucifer became known as Satan or the Devil and what he was unable
to accomplish in Heaven, he then set out to accomplish in the newly created
world.
And
when God created the world, there was no death, no evil, no sin, no decay, and
no suffering, hardship, grief, sorrow, or pain of any level, degree, severity,
or sort because God had created the world to be a perfectly good world in which
was only peace, happiness, and contentment and it was a world and universe in
which there had existed a perfect and uninterrupted harmony between God, man,
and nature and after Satan had been cast from his place in Heaven, he had crept
into this world in the form of a serpent and where he caused the first man Adam
and the first woman Eve, who was Adam’s wife to commit an astronomically
fateful and consequential act of disobedience that would change the good and
perfect world that God had made into the world as we presently know it today by
deceiving them into eating a fruit from a certain tree that God had warned Adam
and Eve to not eat from and the tree whose fruit God had forbidden them to eat
from was a tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, having
warned them both that in the day that they ate of that fruit, they would surely
die (Gen. 2:16-17, 3:3) but Satan who came to them in the form of a serpent falsely
assured them that the eating of that fruit would not bring death to them as
they had been warned and deceived them into thinking that the eating of that
fruit would cause them to attain to greater heights (Gen. 3:4-5) and when they
had eaten of that forbidden fruit, instead of attaining to greater heights, they
were reduced to a lesser status and the only thing that to which they had been
enlightened was the shame that had come upon their nakedness (Gen. 3:7) and instead
of being spared the sentence of death that they had been warned of, that very
sentence of death for their disobedience was pronounced upon them just as they
had been warned (Gen. 3:19) and the lie that led Adam and Eve into that
disobedience was the first lie that was ever known to be told which would from
that day forth be followed by a multitude of other lies and it was that very
lie told that made Satan who told that lie the father of lies (Jn. 8:44) and it
was by that lie that he led Adam and Eve into the very transgression that would
bring upon them the sentence of death of which they had been warned but the
consequences of their disobedience did not stop with just Adam and Eve because
the sin that entered into them when they had eaten of that forbidden fruit and
which brought upon them the sentence of death was then passed down to the rest
of humanity because it is from Adam and Eve that all of mankind descends and
because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, we inherit within ourselves the
sin that entered into them (Rom. 5:12) and just as they had eventually died to
the sin that entered into them, so we too die as well because of the sin that
we inherited from them which is why it is written that the wages of sin is
death (Rom. 6:23) and because we all sin, we all die, but the consequences of
the transgression do not stop with even mankind because the touch of sin taints,
defiles, perverts, corrupts, and destroys all that it touches; such is its
pervasiveness which is why the entire creation groans and travails in pain to
this very day (Rom. 8:19-22) and the reason for why the death, suffering,
grief, sorrow, decay, hardship, evil, and pain that we witness and experience abound
in the world today and it is by sin and death that Satan reigns over this present
world and by sin and death does he come to steal, kill, and destroy (Jn. 10:10)
and it is due to the transgression of Adam that Satan is given justification
for claiming lordship over the people, nations, kingdoms, and empires of the
world (Mt. 4:8-9, Lk. 4:6-7) which is why he is called the prince of this world
(Jn. 12:31, 16:11) and it is upon lies that he builds and maintains his power
and it is only truth that weakens and shatters his power which is why Satan
will do all in his power and use every resource at his disposal to suppress
anything that will discredit the very lies with which he poisons every mind and
heart that he can and takes captive every soul that he can because truth detoxifies
the mind, cleanses the heart, and sets free the captive soul.
The
truth need not fear any challenge to it and it sees no need to silence any
dissenting voice, but lies on the other hand resent being questioned and challenged
and will seek to silence and stamp out any dissenting voice because the spirit
behind every lie knows that if his lies are discredited in the hearts and minds
of the souls he takes and keeps captive, his power over them will be broken and
the truth that Satan seeks to suppress is the truth that God is not willing
that any should perish and be sentenced to eternal damnation but that all would
come to repentance, (2 Pet. 3:9) that all would come to repentance, to no longer
be estranged from Him but to be reconciled to Him through the cleansing of our
sins in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior who came into this world to take away
our sins which He did through His death on the cross upon which He was
crucified and after having purchased in His death our redemption, was raised
again from the dead for our justification (Rom. 4:25) so that we who have
placed our faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins may be justified
in Him in the sight of God the Father and the reason why it was necessary that
Jesus should come into the world to remove the sins of the world is because it
is impossible, due to sin within us, that we should be able to redeem ourselves
through our own merit and goodness because it is due to sin in us that our own
goodness, even at its best, falls short of what is necessary for redemption
because no matter how upright we try to be, we all still sin and fall short of
the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) because sin is not merely a bad act or ill-spoken
and corrupt speech, but it is inwardly corrupt condition of our nature that
causes within us that which is in violation of what God created us to be. Sin influences not just the acts and behavior
manifested, but also the very thoughts of the mind, the motives behind all that
is said and done and because it is the condition of our very nature, it is the
very reason why it is written that we are not defiled by the things from without
but by the things that are from within (Mt. 15:11, 18-20) and why it is that
God desires not just a change in the outward performance, but an inward cleansing
(Mt. 23:26) which is made possible, not by our own efforts to cleanse ourselves
because even our best efforts, due to sin within us, will always fall short,
but only in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in whom there is no sin (2 Cor.
5:21, Heb. 4:15) for it is due to His sinlessness that He was able to take upon
Himself the demanded penalty for sin and it was in His death and in His resurrection
that both the demanded penalty was satisfied and mercy was given on behalf of
inherently sinful man and it is this redemption that Satan seeks to keep as
many people as he can from because it is this redemption that cleanses the soul
and brings an inward transformation within us (2 Cor. 5:17) that causes us to
no longer desire to follow after selfish and worldly pursuits but after those
things that pertain to the Kingdom of Heaven,
to
no longer take pleasure in those things that are evil and displeasing in the
sight of the Lord, but in that which is good, right, and pleasing in His sight,
to
no longer desire to walk in the lies of this present world, but only in the
truth that comes from Christ Almighty who is the source of all truth, (Jn.
14:6)
no
longer placing our hopes in the things of this present world, but looking
forward to that new and better world to come, (Rev. 21-22)
to
no longer rely on worldly resources, men, or even our own power, abilities,
skills, and wisdom for our needs and provision but upon God who is able to meet
all of our needs, recognizing that the resources of this world and even the
people He brings into our lives are but instruments and vessels through which
God meets our needs and that the skills, power, knowledge, and wisdom by which
we might acquire our provision are provided and instilled in us by God, (Mt.
6:25-33)
to
no longer fear what men can do to us, but rather fearing the God before whom we
will have to one day give an account for how we lived our lives, (Mt. 10:28)
to
no longer look to corruptible institutions within our society for direction and
order in our lives but to God who, by His written Word has given us laws and
precepts to be applied to our lives and which serve to produce and maintain an
ordered life, and who, by His Holy Spirit which comes to dwell within us upon
repentance, establishes in our lives a course and direction in our lives to
pursue for His glory,
to
no longer seek our own glory but the glory of God,
to
no longer rally behind corruptible men, but instead behind the incorruptible
God in Heaven bearing in mind that those men and women God raises up for our
edification are but instruments and servants of His for that respective purpose
to which He has called them,
to
no longer seek to align ourselves with the things of darkness but only with the
things of the light,
to
no longer trust in the wisdom of the world but only on the wisdom and knowledge
that comes from above, (Jas. 1:5) nor depend on corruptible earthly authorities
to swiftly administer justice, but only in the power of God to deliver us from
evil.
Every
soul that is won over to Christ is a blow to Satan’s power because the more are
persuaded to turn away from their sins and embrace Jesus as their Savior and Lord
of their life, the less power Satan has in the world but in every generation,
through various means, resources, and devices, Satan has done and still
continues to do everything that he can to stop the spreading of the Gospel
message and overthrow anything that enables and empowers the spreading of the
Gospel and the flourishing of the Church.
If
you want to be on the side of truth and not on the side of lies,
If
you want to be on the side of what is good and not what is evil,
And
if you want to be assured of eternal peace, then I urge any who have not done
so already to call upon the name of the Lord Jesus for the forgiveness of
sins. It is but a simple sincere prayer
of repentance away:
"Lord
Jesus I need you.
I
realize that I am a sinner
who
has fallen short of the glory of God
and
that my goodness falls short
of
your standard of Moral perfection.
Please
forgive me of all of my sins.
Come
into my heart and into my life
to
be the Savior and Lord of my life.
Make
me into the servant and follower
that
you want me to be.
In
your name Lord Jesus, I pray.
Amen."
Know
that God is not concerned with the words that you use to call upon Him for forgiveness, but with the attitude of
your heart and if you have, with all sincerity, have asked Christ to forgive
you of your sins, placing your trust in Him only for your salvation and in
nothing else, then your sins are forgiven and your place in Heaven is certain.
