Souls Are Not Being Held In Abraham's Bosom: There Is Only Heaven Or Hell

While I overall agree what Ian M. Giatti says in his piece from the Christian Post, that UFOs and disembodied souls so-called are demonic deceptions, which is what his respective piece is mostly about, I must contest that the souls of the righteous dead are not currently held in “Abraham’s Bosom” because scripture says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. (2 Cor. 5:8) who is in Heaven and not in the earth where Abraham’s Bosom was said to be located in scripture, as in Heaven, we cannot look into Hell and witness the torment of the wicked and unbelieving, but in Abraham’s Bosom, people in Hell could see this Paradise and even speak to them and the people in Paradise could see the people in Hell and speak to them, but neither were able to cross over to each other because they were separated from each other by a great chasm.

In the book of Revelation, when the fifth seal is open, (Rev. 6:9-11) the Apostle John sees the souls of those killed for their faith who call on God for justice to be done on their behalf, thus indicating that these souls are in Heaven and in the presence of God, not in Abraham’s Bosom.  And again, John sees a multitude of souls worshipping Jesus in Heaven, being told that the multitude represents all the souls in Christ who had come out of the great tribulation that is to come. (Rev. 7:9-17) Again this depicts souls who are in Heaven in the presence of Jesus.

But then begs the question, if all who die in Christ are in His presence in Heaven, then what was Abraham’s Bosom? What purpose did it serve?  We read about Abraham’s Bosom or a place called Paradise in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus in which Lazarus is taken to a place of comfort which Jesus calls Abraham’s Bosom; a place of comfort over which the Patriarch Abraham was apparently made proprietor and to which those who died in faith and righteousness went before the death and resurrection of Jesus. (Lk. 16:19-31)

It is believed that before the coming of Jesus to take away our sins, that no one, save for Elijah and Enoch, were ever admitted into the direct presence of God because a final atonement for sin had not yet been made but God, in His goodness and mercy had established a temporary holding place for the righteous dead in the bowels of the earth which was a place of comfort called Abraham’s Bosom or Paradise but which, after the death and resurrection of Christ, was no longer needed for as it is written, “When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive…he that ascended, what is it but he that also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?”
(Eph. 4:8-9) and the Apostle Peter said that while He was in the earth, He preached to spirits in prison (1 Pet. 3:19)

Jesus had already paid the penalty for our sins in His death, for as it is written, just before He died, He said, “It is finished” and before that, He said to the repentant thief who was crucified alongside Him, “Today, you will be with me in Paradise” thus destroying any and all notion or suggestion that Jesus, after His death, would have resided in the torments of Hell for three days and nights.  But there was a reason why Jesus descended into the earth and as passages that I have already cited seem to suggest, there was yet a purpose to be accomplished there during those three days that He was dead and after having accomplished that purpose, was raised again from the dead so that we, by our faith in Him alone for our salvation, would be justified in Him and by Him in the sight of God. (Rom. 4:25)

And if there is no longer any need for Abraham’s Bosom since the redemption of our souls has already been purchased and is offered to any willing to turn away from their sins and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, then there are only two destinations, as far as the New Covenant is concerned that a person goes when he or she dies, and that is either Heaven or Hell and the question, and the most important question that anyone must ask themselves and meditate on is if they were to die today at any given time, where would they be?

Would they be in Heaven or Hell?  Now granted I assume that most people would hope to be in Heaven when they die; no one believes that there is a Hell really wants to go there; anyone with any understanding of what kind of a place Hell is, should want to avoid that place because it is a place of everlasting punishment and torment that never ceases or relents and if you ask anyone what it is they place their trust in to avoid Hell, you are going to get various different answers.  Some people don’t believe in either Heaven or Hell because they do not believe that we created by God to begin with, and so, they dismiss the existence of an afterlife of any kind as being laughable and foolish, but for those who do believe in a Creator or higher power and for those followers of most theistic faiths, trust is placed in their own merit.  They believe that if they are morally upright enough and are devoted enough to their respective faith, and are obedient enough and reverent enough towards what they might call God or in the cases of polytheistic religions, gods, that they will deliver themselves eternal damnation, but what sets the Christian faith apart from the other religions of the world is that our own merit and our own goodness are not sufficient enough to deliver us from eternal damnation.

And this seems to be a very hard thing to accept and understand for many, especially those who consider themselves morally upright and devoted servants of God because they are trusting in their own goodness to gain them favor with God and to deliver them from judgment because to them, sin is defined as the committing of an evil act and so measure themselves by the outward performance, not understanding that sin is not defined as just a bad action done, but rather the inward corruption of our very nature which causes us sin not just by way of our actions or even what we say, but also inwardly in our thoughts and in our hearts and it is for this reason that Jesus said that we are not defiled by what is from without, but by what is within us (Mt. 15:11, 18-20) and it is this inward defilement that affects not only what we say and do, but our very thoughts that influence what we say and do, the motives that drive what we say and do, and the attitudes harbored within our hearts and it is for this reason why it is written that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and anything that falls short of the glory of God cannot be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven lest Heaven should be defiled just as the earth is defiled; that is how pervasive the touch of sin is.  It taints, defiles, corrupts, perverts, and distorts all that it touches and it is the very reason why all of creation groans and travails in pain to this very day. (Rom. 8:19-22)

When God created the heavens and the earth, they were created in purity.  There was no corruption, defilement, distortion, destruction, perversion, death, evil, pain, and suffering present in the creation because sin had not yet entered into the world.  There was only life, goodness, happiness, peace, and contentment in the world in which existed a perfect and uninterrupted harmony between God, man, and nature, until a fateful act of disobedience disrupted that harmony when the first man Adam and his wife Eve ate of a fruit from a certain tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, having been warned of God that in the day that they ate thereof, they would surely die. (Gen. 2:16-17, 3:3)

They were free to eat of the fruit of any other tree and of any seed-bearing plant (Gen. 1:29) but the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was the only fruit forbidden to them, but instead of heeding the warning given to them by God, they disobeyed the prohibition and ate of that fruit, and it was when they ate of that fruit that sin entered into them which brought upon them the sentence of death as they were warned (Gen. 3:19) and to which they eventually succumbed but the consequences of their disobedience did not end with them as the sin that entered into them was then inherited by the rest of mankind because it is from Adam and Eve all mankind descends and because we all descend from them, the sin that entered into them was passed down to the rest of us (Rom. 5:12) which is why we all sin and since we all sin, we all die, which is why it is written, the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23) because it is in sin that death has its power, and it is due to sin that we are born estranged and separated from our Creator and it is what prevents us from entering into Heaven and as for those who remain in their sins, they have nothing to look forward to except an eternity of unrelenting torment in the darkness and fires of Hell.

When people understand sin to be more than just a manifested act, but an inward corrupted condition that we cannot rid ourselves of, it is only then that they can ever begin to understand why it is that their own goodness and merit will never take away their sins and once they understand that, only then will they begin to understand why it was necessary for Jesus to come into the world to take away our sins which He did by His death and resurrection.

If we hope to persuade people of their need of repentance and redemption, they have to understand first understand that they are lost and in danger of standing eternally condemned before God and not only must they understand that they are lost, but why they are lost, and how they became lost in the first place.  It is only then that they can appreciate the solution to their sin which is found in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior who offers redemption and the forgiveness of sins every day to any who will call upon His name and that is only a simple sincere prayer of repentance away:

"Lord Jesus I need you.

I realize that I am a sinner
who has fallen short of the glory of God
and that my goodness falls short
of your standard of Moral perfection.

Please forgive me of all of my sins.
Come into my heart and into my life
to be the Savior and Lord of my life.
Make me into the servant and follower
that you want me to be.
In your name Lord Jesus, I pray.

Amen."

Know that God is not concerned with the words that you use to call upon Him forgiveness, but with the attitude of your heart and if you have, with all sincerity, have asked Christ to forgive you of your sins, placing your trust in Him only for your salvation and in nothing else, then your sins are forgiven and your place in Heaven is certain.
