Why There Can Be No Compromise On "Culture" As It Pertains To Moral Issues

A commentary item from a publication called Real Clear Politics, stated that there can be no compromise on “culture” as it describes, citing abortion and the affirmation and celebration of LGBT behavior as two such examples as why no lasting compromise can ever be reached on such issues:

When we polarize on cultural or moral issues, though, compromise is much harder, partly because compromise looks like weakness and defeat. Consider abortion. Most developed democracies split the difference. Third-trimester abortions are generally difficult to get, and second-trimester abortions are often discouraged, but first-trimester abortions are usually obtainable.

But whether a fetus is a person is a hard question to temporize on. Either it is a person, or it isn’t. And if the fetus is a person, it has a right to life – a right that could outweigh the right of the mother to control her body for the course of her pregnancy. Few people who believe that a fetus is a person believe that the mother’s rights trump the fetus’s. However, if the fetus is not a person, abortion restrictions are intolerable. They intrude on the mother’s rights, attempting to control the most personal decision she may ever make. If there is no child at stake, the limits have no justification.

Gender identity is another issue that falls into this either/or category. To some, trans identity might be a genuine expression of personal autonomy; to others it’s an unfortunate confusion that flouts biology. Either one’s gender identity is independent of biological sex, or biological sex is the only determinant. Conservatives see trans people as confused about the nature of their personhood. Progressives see trans people as struggling for recognition and freedom – they want the same rights as everyone else. [1]

Certainly more could be added to the two cited examples of “cultural” moral conflict but this “cultural” divide, which encompasses a number of different controversial subjects is not merely a political one.  It is a moral one which also makes it a spiritual divide and while it is possible to reach some degree of compromise when it comes to energy and economic policies, education reform, immigration, and national security, it is impossible to achieve moral compromise because all moral conflict arises from that which is spiritual because what spirit we follow or what manner of “spirituality” we adopt is going to determine the manner of virtues, values, morals (or lack thereof) by which we live our lives and ultimately the kind of laws and policies that the governing authorities over us implement.

If there is to be any moral unity, there first has to be a spiritual unity and the question is: Under what spirit will we choose to be united under?

Are we going to be united under a spirit that murders helpless babies, subjects our school children, high school, and college students to perverse indoctrinations, excuses and justifies criminal activity, ignores corruption at every level of government, demeans and makes a mockery out of everything that is pure and innocent, and that demands the relinquishing of our God-given liberties in the name of conformity?

Or are we going to be united under a spirit that calls for the protecting of innocent lives, maintaining moral and civic order, demands that all be held accountable for their actions and behavior, that all take personal responsibility for the choices they make in life, that justice be swiftly done upon all those who do evil, that our schools and colleges teach the students under their charge to be productive and upright citizens, and that we seek out leadership that is worthy of honor and respect, and that individual liberties be upheld and respected?

Such will determine the course of our nation be it for better or for worse just as such will determine the course of each life for good or ill and each and every one of us is given a choice as to whom we will serve and with what we will align ourselves with:

Light or darkness
Life or death
Liberty or bondage
Order or chaos
Love or hate
Peace or violence
Truth or falsehood
Good or evil
Righteousness or unrighteousness
Purity or corruption
Holiness or unholiness
Godliness or ungodliness
God or Satan
Heaven or Hell
Salvation or damnation

And ever since the beginning of time, there have been those who have chosen and will continue to embrace:

Light
Life
Liberty
Order
Truth
Goodness
Love
Peace
Holiness
Righteousness
Purity
Godliness
God
Heaven
Salvation

And there are also those who have chosen and will persist in choosing, even to their own destruction:

Darkness
Death
Oppression and bondage
Chaos
Falsehood
Evil
Hate
The ways of violence and war
Unholiness
Unrighteousness
Ungodliness
Corruption and perversion
Satan
Hell and damnation for all eternity.

And until things are set aright by the Lord God who created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, there will always be people either siding with God or setting themselves against Him and inevitably, there will be continue to be theological, spiritual, moral, and even political clashes; all of which will intensify as the time of the end draws near.

But before that conflict from which all other conflicts come forth came to earth, it began in the Kingdom of Heaven itself by an act of pride and a pride so immense that it caused a certain angel, a cherub more specifically, who held a position at the throne of God, to make himself equal with God (Is. 14:11-21, Ezek. 28:12-19) and as a consequence was cast from his position.

When he could not acquire the power he sought in Heaven, he then took his lust for power and enmity towards God to the earth where the war between God and that usurping angel now known as Lucifer or Satan became a war for the souls of men which began when Satan came to the first woman Eve in the form of a serpent and deceived her into eating a certain fruit from a certain tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil which she and her husband Adam, the first man, were warned by God to not eat from lest they should surely die. (Gen. 2:16-17, 3:3)

That serpent deceived Eve with a lie, and the first lie ever recorded, telling her that she and Adam would not die if they ate of the forbidden fruit but that they would become like God knowing good from evil (Gen. 3:4-5) and being made to think that the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would make her all the wiser and even divine she and Adam with her, ate from that fruit and when they did, their eyes were opened not to glory, but to shame for sin had entered into them both and instead of becoming gods, they were rendered to a more inferior status than what they were created to be and as a consequence, the sentence of death was pronounced upon them just as God had warned them (Gen. 3:19) and contrary to Satan’s false assurances and it is that very first recorded lie told in the garden that makes him the father of lies (Jn. 8:44) and it is by his lies that he is made a murderer (v. 44) for it was his lies to Eve that caused sin to enter into man and with sin came death but not only to Adam and his wife Eve, but all of mankind who descend from them for from Adam and Eve is sin inherited by all of mankind which is why all people sin (Rom. 5:12) and why all, as a consequence all people die (Rom. 6:23) and are born estranged from God because of their sin

Sin is not just a bad action or even an ill-spoken word, but rather it is the corrupted condition of our very nature that causes to be contrary to what God created us to be which perverts our thoughts, darkens our hearts, and corrupts our motives which is why it is written that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and it is due to sin being present within us that even our own goodness is tainted and falls short of the perfect goodness required of us by God but the effects of sin are not merely confined to our nature or the staining of our very souls, but because of sin, all of creation itself has been subject to a curse which is why it is written that the entire creation itself groans and travails in pain to this day (Rom. 8:19-22) and lastly, the disobedience of Adam and Eve diminished the dominion that man was supposed to have over all the earth and gave Satan justification to claim lordship over the nations, kingdoms, and empires of the earth (Mt. 4:8-9, Lk. 4:6-7) which is why he is now referred to as the prince of this world (Jn. 12:31, 16:11), but worst of all, sin has caused us to be separated and estranged from our Creator and the day is coming that all sin must be punished and eliminated once it has reached that measure causing it to be necessary for divine judgment to fall upon the face of the world and that includes everyone who remains in their sins and takes pleasure therein and what a fearful day that will be for those who remain in their sins when they must stand before God and give an account for all that they have done in this life, having even the very nature of their thoughts, motives, and attitudes subject to judgment, but there is good news in that our Creator takes no pleasure in punishment and is not willing that any should face eternal damnation but that all would come to repentance (2 Pet. 3:9) for though He be a holy God who cannot permit the taint of sin in His Kingdom nor allow it to dwell in His direct presence, He is also a God of love and mercy and it is in His love for us that He sent the sinless Christ (2 Cor. 5:21) to offer Himself up and take upon Himself the demanded penalty for all sin on behalf of sinful man and by His death on the cross was the penalty satisfied and mercy given and by His resurrection are we made by faith justified in the Lord Christ (Rom. 4:25) so that anyone calling upon His name would be saved from what would otherwise be a terrifying and everlasting judgment (Rom. 10:9) and just as our souls are cleansed from sin in Christ, we also look forward to the day that we are also liberated from bodily death when that which was conceived in sin and is corruptible is changed into an incorruptible form in which sin no longer dwells (1 Cor. 15:51-55, 1 Thess. 4:13-18) and lastly, creation itself will be delivered from the curse that came upon it because of sin when it is made anew and into an immensely better world than it is today without any sin, and in which neither death nor evil have any place, and in which there will be no decay, no darkness, no pain, grief, sorrow, hardship, war, or divisions of any sort, but only light, life, peace, unity, contentment, happiness, and joy before the Lord God Almighty. (Rev. 21-22)

But for those who choose the way of sin and wickedness and align themselves with Satan against the righteous and Holy God of life eternal have nothing to look forward to but eternal death, destruction, and damnation because a day is coming when the wheat and tares will be separated from one another; the tares being burned, and the wheat gathered and stored in the Kingdom of Heaven and that new and glorious world to come (Mt.  13:24-30, 37-44) for the day is coming when Satan and all they who have followed him will receive their final sentence and be cast into everlasting darkness and fiery torment from which there will be no relief day or night (Rev. 20:10-15)

Just as the adversary of God presented an illusion of a freedom and liberty greater to Adam and Eve than what they had been given, so he continues to present an illusion of freedom that appears to be greater than that perfect liberty than can only be experienced in Christ Jesus who is the very source of the liberty that we long for, but that counterfeit freedom offered by Satan only leads to the captivity, bondage, oppression, and the ultimate everlasting destruction and damnation that all might claim they want to avoid or be liberated from.

And in his presentation of this illusion of his, Satan constantly defames our Lord as a cruel and unjust oppressor and makes service to Him out to be a drudgery rather than a joy, makes the saving Gospel message out to be nothing more than a fairytale and with cleverly devised arguments, he attempts to discredit the authority of the divinely inspired scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16) by which the Gospel message is delivered and when his attempts to defame the character of Christ fail, and when his attempts to discredit the Gospel message come to no avail, and when the souls he attempts to hold captive see through his illusions, deceits, and lies, he then will try to suppress the truth of God that liberates they who receive it from the darkness, despair, hopelessness, captivity, destruction, and eternal damnation that they would otherwise face, and not only that, he will even go so far as to suppress any information that might lead the souls he holds captive to the saving knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and when he is unable to hide that which he seeks to suppress, he will threaten into silence they who would otherwise propagate that which might lead the lost and unbelieving souls into the way of life, light, and liberty found in Christ Jesus, and when those whom he threatens refuse to be intimidated, he will carry out every kind, degree and level of persecution that he can to silence them and what he cannot destroy from without, he will infiltrate the ranks of those who have sided with their Maker, have embraced His saving and redeeming Gospel, and have willingly submitted to His authority and destroy from within and the destruction he brings by way of his subtleties, lulling into complacency, laziness, instilling apathy and demoralization, sowing division amongst those who might otherwise be united, and even turning some away from the faith that they have embraced by bringing against them any adversity he can that might cause them to fall away from the faith or by deceiving them out of it by the introduction of false doctrines, intellectual, theological, and philosophical challenges designed to sow within them doubt in the faith in which they once had confidence.

And as the time of his final sentence draws near, that immensely wicked, prideful, and hate-filled Devil will continue to fight all the more to draw as many unsuspecting, unbelieving, and rebellious souls to their damnation that he can and the closer that time comes, the more aggressively he will fight to hold captive as many souls as he can and to keep them from experience that true and perfect liberty that is found in Christ Jesus alone.

For it is in Christ that we are liberated from the eternal damnation of the soul.
It is in Him, that we are liberated from the desire to do that which our sinful condition wants us to by way of the inward transformation that takes place within us when we call upon His name for salvation (2 Cor. 5:17)
It is in Christ that we are made free from a meaningless existence devoid of hope.
It is in Christ that we will be made free of death itself.
And it is Jesus Christ who will free all of creation from its misery by making it anew.
And it is Jesus Christ who will bring that age-long war between God and Satan to its final conclusion when He establishes His Kingdom upon the earth and expels that evil and wicked spirit out of it by casting him into that fire prepared for him and they who have sided with him.

Both sides in this age long clash demand a conformity: One to the things, ways, laws, precepts, counsels, and decrees of God and to the mind of Christ, and to the way of life, truth, goodness, righteousness, holiness, and honor, and peace.

And the other to the ways of sin, the profane, unholiness, unrighteousness, ungodliness, darkness, evil, and death.

One side is willing that there be for a time a co-existence between the followers and the children of God and those who persist in following Satan desiring that all would turn to God in sincere repentance and away from the lies, evil, and wickedness of the Devil and sees no present need to forcibly silence the lies being propagated by the agents of darkness being ever confident that the truth of God, who is the source of all truth, (Jn. 14:6) will prevail and it will be in that day when the truth, which is Christ, is made plain and evident for all to see, that they who have persisted in their rejection of and rebellion against their Maker will meet their eternal doom.

And there is one side that will not suffer there to be a co-existence between the children of light and the children of darkness, but in its relentless attempt to bring and keep the world in perpetual darkness, is doing everything it can to hinder and stop the preaching and spread of the salvation and liberty found in Christ Jesus and even if they do agree to a compromise for a time, they, in their treacherous nature, will not continue to honor any compromise no matter how reasonable it may appear for they will always demand even more and whatever it takes to silence suppress that voice of truth which calls the lost to repentance in Christ Jesus every day and which offers them a liberty more perfect than any that has ever been experienced since the creation of the world before the fall of man in the garden because the spirit at work within the children of darkness seeks nothing more than to bring despair, misery, oppression, tyranny, and eventual destruction to those it holds in captivity not just in body, but also in the mind, heart, and soul and it will stop at nothing to keep captive and oppressed as many souls as it can, do everything in its power to keep shut the Kingdom of Heaven from those who might otherwise seek to enter in.

But one side is going to triumph over and vanquish the other side.  Both think and insist that they are going to be victorious over the other and when this age-long war between God and Satan is ended, there will be a complete spiritual, theological, moral, philosophical, academic, and political conformity by which all of creation will be governed and there will be no end to its Kingdom and the winning side of this age-long war will be the Lord God Almighty and there will be no place in His Kingdom contrary to His will and desire.  Everything that is not of God, contrary to His desire, in opposition to His will and governance will be cast out into everlasting darkness subject to eternal torment to which there is no end.

If you have not done so today, I would urge you to make sure that you are on the winning side today.  It is but a simple prayer of repentance away:

"Lord Jesus I need you.

I realize that I am a sinner
who has fallen short of the glory of God
and that my goodness falls short
of your standard of Moral perfection.

Please forgive me of all of my sins.
Come into my heart and into my life
to be the Savior and Lord of my life.
Make me into the servant and follower
that you want me to be.
In your name Lord Jesus, I pray.

Amen."

Know that God is not concerned with the words that you use to call upon Him forgiveness, but with the attitude of your heart and if you have, with all sincerity, have asked Christ to forgive you of your sins, placing your trust in Him only for your salvation and in nothing else, then your sins are forgiven and your place in Heaven is certain.
