Welcome to Contender's Edge


This author admits that this is an amateur blogsite and that it is only in its infancy with its creation and preparation being a step of learning processes for me.  D.H. Manheim is a pen name only which is applied for security purposes and not the actual name of the author and founder of this site.
Contender's Edge is a Christian blogsite dedicated to preaching the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, contending for the faith by defending the authority of the scriptures which give us the Gospel, calling out heresies and false doctrines, exposing the works of darkness, examining trends occurring within the body of Christ, and assisting fellow saints in giving a reason and logic-based defense of their faith.

Another interesting thing I learned about Opossums is that they can now be added to the list of living fossils as fossils of creatures not so different from the modern Virginia Opossum have been found as deep down in the earth as the Cretaceous layers which, according to the evolutionary time scale, ended roughly 65 million years ago.
 
For those of you who don’t know what a living fossil is, it is a plant or animal that, according evolutionists, once thought long extinct but discovered alive and virtually unchanged or a presently living plant or animal whose existence is traced back to the same time as plants and animals it was not thought to live alongside.  Known living fossils today include the Tuatara (a lizard that existed alongside dinosaurs), the bristlecone pine tree, the coelacanth (a fish thought to have been a transitional form between fish and amphibians until living specimens had been discovered) the cycad plant, and now the Opossum.
 
“Living” fossils have been reproducing after their own kinds ever since day one of their existence which is what we would expect to find if the Genesis account of creation is true and if Opossums, Tuataras, and certain plants have been reproducing after their own kinds since day one of their existence, then how many other plants and animals have been reproducing after their own kinds since day one of their existence, just as the Bible says God created them to? (Gen. 1:12, 21, 25)
 
How dramatically might it change the way the world looks at origins and natural history if more fossils belonging to presently living creatures were to be found alongside those that they were not supposed to be living alongside?
 
There is nothing that an evolutionist hates more than the discovery of plants and animals once thought extinct to be alive and well and virtually unchanged since day one of their existence or to find fossils of animals from different evolutionary eras deposited alongside each other because such discoveries are always a challenge to the evolutionary narrative.

Fossils belonging to a newly discovered species of extinct crocodile found in Montana which the following item mentions was not carnivorous as other crocodilian species are but that it may have eaten plants.
 
[In a pre-fallen world, there were no carnivorous animals but only vegetarian.  When the world was initially created, it was plants that were given as food to all animals including crocodiles. It was upon the eating of that forbidden fruit that sin entered into the world through Adam and with sin came death and it was due to the sin that entered into Adam and Eve that sentence of death of which they were warned had been pronounced upon them (Gen. 3:19) and the sin that entered into them was then passed down to all of mankind (Rom. 5:12) which is why we all sin and as a consequence we all die, for as it is written, the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23) but the consequences of that transgression which brought sin and death into the world did not stop at mankind, but the course of nature itself was also changed for the worse because all of creation has been affected for the worse which is why death, decay, pain, and suffering abound in it to this very day (Rom. 8:19-22) but the good news is, is that the death, pain, and suffering that we experience and witness in this world will not last forever, because all of creation is destined for redemption and that redemption has already begun and it has begun with man.  It was through man that sin and death came into the world and which brought the once good world to the present state that it is in and so, it is with man with whom redemption must first begin which is why God sent his only begotten Son Jesus Christ to take away the sins of the world which He did through His death upon the cross on which He was crucified and after having purchased redemption in His death, was raised again from the dead so that we who place our faith in Him for the forgiveness of sins would be justified in Him (Rom. 4:25) and just as we have been redeemed spiritually, so one day we shall be free from bodily death when these corruptible forms which die in which we live are changed into forms incorruptible and exempt from death (1 Cor. 15:51-55, 1 Thess. 4:13-18) and finally, creation itself will be liberated from the taint of sin when this present world is done away with and is made anew into a place without sin, death, or suffering (Rev. 21-22) as was intended in the beginning.]

I will admit that I have not paid too much attention to the shroud of Turin as its authenticity has been hotly debated but if indeed Jesus was wrapped in it at any time, we would expect to find blood stains on it belonging to a man of semitic origin, and we would expect to find blood of both postmortem and premortem nature.  Now, it would not make sense for the blood of a person wrapped in a shroud to leave premortem blood on it unless they were still alive when they were wrapped in it.
 
Scripture clearly states that Jesus had died upon the cross on which He was crucified and therefore could not have been alive when He was wrapped in his shroud but, as the item states, premortem blood drops might very well be consistent with one who has been raised from the dead.

Founding father John Adams had once stated of the Jews, the polytheists and the Christians:

There is sadly some truth in his statement in that we so often hear the love of God preached from the pulpits but seldom hear what it is to fear and honor God preached and if we do not know what it is to fear and honor God, then do we really know what it is to love Him?   What John Adams observed as being three great principles unique to three different religions scripture, even in the New Testament, admonishes and instructs those same three great principles to be applied to our faith because if we do not learn to do so and neglect to do so, then we do so at our own peril and shame before the Lord God Almighty who demands of His followers that we love, honor and fear Him and if we love the Lord our God then we will want to honor Him in all that we do and if we fear the Lord our God then we should avoid doing anything that would invite His displeasure in this life and in the world to come.

While people should be well informed of both the potential benefits and risks of certain therapies and treatments they may consider pursuing, they should not be denied access to those therapies and treatments no matter the controversy surrounding them.  Conversion therapy may not work for all people struggling with unwanted same-sex attractions, but it does work for some but the LGBT community, in order to maintain the credibility of the narrative that sexual orientation and identity cannot be changed but is fixed, would keep in bondage to same-sex attractions those who long to be rid of the attractions they don’t want.

Those who claim that we don’t need “discernment” ministries will also claim that we do not need “apologetics” ministries and that apologetics, which is to make a case and defense of our faith, is not important and that is a very dangerous position to take because if Christians regard apologetics as a trivial matter, then they will be ill-prepared to defend their faith against the intellectual, philosophical, and theological challenges with which they may be confronted and will be rendered ineffective in reaching those lost souls who might otherwise come to repentance if a persuasive case for the Gospel message is made and not only that, they will also be unprepared to confront the false doctrines and heresies that have entered and are still entering into our ranks which results in many professing Christians being deceived by false doctrine and heresy and even being led away from the faith altogether.
 
When necessary, we are called upon, to the best of the ability God bestows in each and every one of us, to answer those challenging questions and to refute the arguments presented against our faith with which we may be confronted because scripture says that we are to be prepared to give an answer for the faith and the hope that is in us to all who ask (1 Pet. 3:15) and to earnestly contend for the faith. (Jude 3)
 
Apologetics not only requires that we defend our faith from attacks from the unbelieving world, but it does require that we defend the purity of doctrine upon which our faith rests from false doctrines and heresies that enter into our ranks.
 
And if you would like, discernment ministries are in all honesty, apologetics ministries except they do not focus on just one issue with which the Church may be confronted with, but a variety of different matters ranging from false doctrines and heresies to even social and cultural issues.

Just as the 1925 John Scopes was a test case against the then Tennessee Butler Act which forbade the teaching of biological evolution, so this current case could also be considered a test case against the teaching of evolution in the classroom. Even if the case is appealed all the way to the US Supreme Court, we cannot hope or expect the teaching of evolution to be judicially prohibited entirely, but the most we can hope for is for the courts to uphold the right of Young Earth Creationism to be taught alongside evolution in an objective fashion in the classroom, as the teaching of Creationism and even Intelligent Design have both been academically and judicially suppressed in public schools, colleges, and universities because they promote religion and violate the so-called separation of church and state which is not found anywhere in our Constitution and it also needs to be made clear that the Constitution does not forbid the promotion of religion in the classroom. It only forbids legislators from making laws that favor one religion above another.

Ken Ham warns of a study Bible that Christians should stay away from and furthermore, the editor of this following item also warns us to stay away from anything written by the author and producer of that study Bible.  The name of the study Bible of which Ham warns us to stay away from is called The Upside Down Kingdom Bible which attempts, through its commentary and footnotes, to impose “woke” and politically correct renderings on the Bible so as to get its reader to doubt as to whether or not scripture actually means what it says.
 
When reading study Bibles or Bibles with footnotes and commentary, even the best of them, we have to remember that it is the text of scripture alone that is divinely inspired (2 Tim. 3:16) and not the commentaries and footnotes we see alongside it.
 
The text itself can be trusted, but as for any commentaries or notes that may be placed alongside the text itself, they are just an attempt to explain to the reader as to how what they are reading applies to them and to this day but in the process, the writers of the commentaries and footnotes may impose a rendering upon the text to which the text itself bears no witness.
 
That is why it so vitally important that, just as we should with anything else, that we compare the commentary and footnotes that we find in any Bible with the actual text itself to determine whether or not the commentary and footnotes we read are in agreement with the scripture itself and if their rendering of scripture is consistent with the text itself but it is not just commentaries and footnotes of Study Bibles that can be problematic and can give readers a warped and twisted view of scripture, but also certain Bible versions themselves that have been produced without any thought for preserving the integrity of scripture.
 
Whenever I am asked as to what Bible translation or version I prefer, I have found both the Geneva and KJV Bibles to be the most accurate and trustworthy of any as their producers took great pains to make sure that both versions were translated from the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts word-for-word accurately and nothing was either added or taken out.
 
And if anyone has reason to question the reliability and accuracy of any particular Bible translation or version, I would recommend getting a Strong’s Concordance which presents to us every possible meaning and application of the Greek and Hebrew from which the scriptures were translated with which any Bible can be cross-checked to determine its accuracy and trustworthiness.
